Spin Echo Amplitude in Biological Tissue with Implications for Vessel Size Imaging
نویسنده
چکیده
Introduction: Transverse relaxation in living tissue can be used as a probe of tissue structure. Vessel size imaging [1-3] is a realization of this potential: The mean size of microvessels can be evaluated by comparison of the gradient echo and spin echo amplitudes. In practical implementation, it is often convenient to use multiple refocusing pulses (CPMG-type measurement) instead of a single spin echo (the corresponding imaging sequences are termed RARE, Turbo Spin Echo or Fast Spin Echo). The problem with these techniques is that the vessel size imaging relies strongly on theoretical interpretation of the signal, which is currently not available for echoes obtained with multiple refocusing pulses. The aim of this study is to provide for such a theory in the static dephasing regime, which is the most relevant for measurements with a contrast enhancement at high fields.

ANALYTICAL STUDY OF EFFECT OF BILAYER INORGANIC AND ORGANIC COATING AROUND THE IRON OXIDE NANOPARTICLES ON MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING CONTRAST
Background & Aims: In recent years, iron oxide nanoparticles have been used in contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging for diagnosing a wide range of diseases. In order to provide biocompatibility and prevent the toxicity of the nanoparticles, using organic or inorganic coating around these nanoparticles is important for their application. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect...
متن کاملComparison of the Effect of Vessel Size Imaging and Cerebral Blood Volume Derived from Perfusion MR Imaging on Glioma Grading.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Vascular proliferation is a major criterion for grading gliomas on the basis of histology. Relative cerebral blood volume can provide pathophysiologic information about glioma grading. Vessel size imaging, in some animals, can be used to estimate the microvascular caliber of a glioma, but its clinical use remains unclear. Herein, we aimed to compare the predictive power o...
متن کاملAssessment of the Characteristics of MRI Coils in Terms of RF Non-Homogeneity Using Routine Spin Echo Sequences
Introduction: One of the major causes of image non-uniformity in MRI is due to the existence of non-homogeneity in RF receive and transmit. This can be the most effective source of error in quantitative studies in MRI imaging. Part of this non-homogeneity demonstrates the characteristics of RF coil and part of it is due to the interaction of RF field with the material being imaged...
متن کاملMRI measurement of oxygen extraction fraction, mean vessel size and cerebral blood volume using serial hyperoxia and hypercapnia
Functional magnetic resonance imaging measures signal increases arising from a variety of interrelated effects and physiological sources. Recently there has been some success in disentangling this signal in order to quantify baseline physiological parameters, including the resting oxygen extraction fraction (OEF), cerebral blood volume (CBV) and mean vessel size. However, due to the complicated...
متن کاملHigh resolution 3D spiral coronary vessel wall imaging with >99% respiratory efficiency using beat to beat respiratory motion correction: quantitative comparison with navigator gated 2D spiral and turbo spin echo imaging
Introduction: Dark blood coronary artery wall imaging has demonstrated the ability to detect vessel wall thickening in subjects with non-significant coronary heart disease [1]. For high resolution imaging, studies are generally performed with diaphragmatic navigator gating which has an inherently low respiratory efficiency (RE) and is further compromised by respiratory drift through the long ac...
